The Culver Hotel
Built by Harry Culver on what was called "the shortest Main Street in the USA" in 1924, this hotel was originally called Hotel Hunt. Culver City was built by the same Harry Culver and many films are shot in the nearby Sony Pictures Studios, formerly MGM. Many stars have passed through the hotel doors including 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan, Mickey Rooney, Greta Garbo, Judy Garland and including The Munchkins of The Wizard Of Oz fame.
Famously there were rumors and myths that The Munchkins were a rowdy drunk bunch, sources ranging from film director Mervyn LeRoy, to Judy Garland, to lyricist Yip Harburg and others. Notable Munchkin, Margaret Pellegrini, debunked these rumors by stating that "a couple of kids from Germany even drank beer." There was even a movie inspired by these rumors in 1981 titled Under The Rainbow starring Carrie Fisher and Chevy Chase.
The Culver Hotel still operates today.
